Privacy policy for the app and the website

Etappe does not collect data about you. The app keeps everything on your iPhone and has no account, no servers, no analytics and no advertising. This website sets no cookies and uses no tracking. This page explains which data still arises, for example when the website is hosted or when you send an email, and which rights you have.

Controller

The controller for data processing in the Etappe app and on etappeapp.com is:

Fabian Bitzer
Hauptstraße 115
65375 Oestrich-Winkel
Germany
Email: support@etappeapp.com

There is no data protection officer because there is no legal obligation to appoint one. Please send privacy questions to the email address above.

In short

  • App: No account, no servers, no analytics, no advertising, no sharing with third parties. Your data stays on your iPhone.
  • Website: No cookies, no tracking, no analytics, no fonts or content from third-party servers. Visiting a page creates technically necessary server logs at the host.
  • Email: If you write to support@etappeapp.com, we process your message to reply.

The Etappe app

Which data the app processes

Etappe only processes data you enter yourself or share from Apple Health:

  • your goal (for example the Vierdaagse with distance and date),
  • your training level (longest walk, kilometres per week, pace, training days),
  • gender and year of birth, plus civilian or military, so the app can work out your Vierdaagse regulation distance,
  • the walks you log or import from Apple Health, with distance, duration and how they felt,
  • your settings such as language and reminder time.

This data is stored only locally in the app on your iPhone. Etappe has no server of its own and sends nothing to us or to third parties. We cannot see your data.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the features you ask for). Health data from Apple Health is processed only on your device and only after you have explicitly allowed it in iOS (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw this permission in iOS at any time.

Apple Health

If you allow it, Etappe reads from Apple Health: workouts, walking distance, steps, walking speed, heart rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability and body weight. This lets the app match walks, including those from Apple Watch, Garmin, Oura or Strava, to your plan and show your heart rate per walk. Etappe writes nothing to Apple Health. The data never leaves your iPhone and is not used for advertising or any other purpose. You decide in iOS which data you share and can change this at any time.

Reminders

Reminders for training days are local notifications scheduled by your iPhone itself. There is no push server. You can turn them off in the app or in the iOS settings.

Export and deletion

You can export all data from the app as a file and share it through the iOS share sheet. Where the file goes is up to you. If you delete the app, iOS also deletes its data on the device. If you use iCloud backups of your iPhone, Apple may store the app data as part of your device backup. This depends on your iOS settings and Apple’s privacy policy.

App Store and crash reports

When you download the app from the App Store or through TestFlight, Apple processes data under its own responsibility. If you have allowed iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple provides us with anonymised crash reports and usage statistics in App Store Connect. Beyond your iOS setting, we have no influence on this.

No automated decisions

Your training plan is calculated on your device from your own input. There is no automated decision with legal effect and no profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
